Easter Weekend
We had a wonderful Easter weekend full of family activities! We drove up to Swea City on Friday and stayed at Todd and Kim's place and had a great time. Saturday Kim and I drove to Sioux Falls, South Dakota for Jessie's bridal shower and met some of her family. Jessie had a Pampered Chef shower and I found myself really wanting some new kitchen products. The chef in me was pretty excited. We also got to take Thomas to his first Easter egg hunt. He loved it. He was so excited about the candy he was jumping up and down and not even running around trying to get the eggs.
Sunday we had the church omelet breakfast, Oliver's baptism, and then a potluck Easter brunch followed by another Easter egg hunt. The kids were so cute and were excited about all the eggs we hid around the church lawn. Rachel also did some face painting and painted the kids faces and hands with bunnies. It made for an enjoyable weekend. Now we are back and semi-unpacked but we feel pretty re-energized. I will have lots of pictures to post this week once I upload them from my camera. I got some great family shots that I can't wait to share!

The kids were so cute and were excited about all the eggs we hid around the church lawn. Rachel also did some face painting and painted the kids faces and hands with bunnies. Countdown to Earth Day
Today was a good day at the house. Oliver slept through the night last night (YAY!) and we were all very rested this morning. Thomas and I practiced our new soccer moves from yesterday's soccer class and almost broke a lamp (oops!) so we had to put the ball away. I can't wait for warmer weather. Then we can play outside without getting muddy since there will be grass again!
When we came inside I had Thomas help me recycle. I would wash out our pop cans and he would put them in the box. In the past we have been horrible about recycling but this year I am trying to make our lives more "green." I already switched to a baking soda based cleaners and Clorox Green Works cleaners. This weeks project has been recycling all of our jars, newspapers, and plastics. We recycled for the first time on Tuesday and had an entire tub of items when the recycling truck came by! And as a bonus our trash can was less full and we didn't use tons of garbage bags this week. My random act of kindness was to mother earth today--I'm so thankful of what we have and I learned that being green doesn't have to be something I skip out on just because we have small kids. My kids CAN help me be a good steward and I can teach them how important it is to invest in our future.
Tomorrow we are heading up to Northwest Iowa for Easter weekend and Oliver's baptism. Also, Saturday Kim and I will head to Jessie's bridal shower. I can't wait to see her! My soon to be sister in law is amazing and I wish we could all live closer to each other. We would have more card nights! Also exciting is that we will get to see Rachel and Mike this weekend. It will be great to get our friends and family together this Sunday. And Sunday night is the final game of the Detroit Red Wings regular season. So you can bet we will be enjoying some special Easter weekend hockey too! I will share pictures when we get back!

Spring is in the air...
Today we were blessed enough to enjoy some nice weather. While walking around downtown today I noticed lots of spring daffodils and tulips in full bloom. Ours are getting close to being ready to bloom too. Hopefully they won't over the weekend while we are away.
Thomas had his soccer class and enjoyed getting rid of some extra energy. He even got to play in the gym they have there before so he really ran around all over the place! When we got home both boys took very long naps at the same time. I admit it was pretty great--they had yet to do that! And when Brent got home they played outside together. Thomas got to ride his big wheeler. All I can say was that was probably the best investment we have made in a toy in a LONG time. Thomas can't get enough of it. He never wants to come back inside the house after playing with it! He did go to sleep pretty well tonight. I read him some bible stories about Easter. It was a first for us to talk about how Jesus died. He seems to really understand it for how young he is. He kept wanting to call the people who nailed Jesus to the cross "bad guys" though. I don't think he understands cops weren't around then!
We also did some spring cleaning around the house in preparation for our big move this summer. Brent rented out a storage unit and we cleaned his office. I'm not actually sure it had been cleaned really well since we moved in. I can only remember washing the floors down a handful of times since its just his room! Its pretty clean now but it took some hard work. Next on my to do list is my kitchen. Hopefully I will have a chance to get to it by next week.

In a city like this rarely does a stranger say hello and I think some were slightly confused by my greetings but for the most part I got lots of hellos and smiles back. Again, simple things--but still things that make the day seem more bright all around.

Good looking start to the week
Thomas got a new spiffy hair cut today. It was getting pretty wild so I took him to the local barber shop. He was very good but got a little wiggly at the end like all children do after sitting still for long enough. The barber gave him a balloon and when we got home it kept Thomas really entertained. Oliver also got to wear his first pair of baby legs. I never heard of these with Thomas until Thomas was well past the crawling age but these are so cool. They cover the baby's knees and legs to keep them from getting all scratchy during tummy time or crawling.
In continuation of last week's blog I have been working on my random acts of kindness. Yesterday (Monday) I helped a friend prepare for a test. She didn't understand a couple of things and I did really well in it last year so I spent 15 minutes after our class explaining some key terms. Today I tried to compliment everyone I ran across. I also tried to be extra patient while driving and running errands. I had to do some grocery shopping and my pleasant attitude seemed to carry over to everyone I ran across. Being patient helped me to slow down and enjoy life. I had a better day because of it. It's simple, but I think it made my day and hopefully someone else's as well. Off to bed now, soccer class is tomorrow.

She didn't understand a couple of things and I did really well in it last year so I spent 15 minutes after our class explaining some key terms. Today I tried to compliment everyone I ran across. Weekend Update!
Well its been a little bit since I last posted. I had a midterm Thursday night and that kept me pretty busy. Friday, Lindsay took Thomas to the mall and treated him to some snacks and a visit to Build-a-Bear. Thomas made his very own bear, who he decided to name "Bear." Very original! Friday night Grandma Patty came to town to babysit so we could attend the Crall wedding. The wedding was beautiful and the colors were a spring green and chocolate brown. Emily looked amazing in her dress and Kevin didn't look to bad either! It was nice to have an evening out without the kids to catch a break.
Saturday was lounge around the house day for us. At least for 1/2 of the day. We also made an attempt to catch up on laundry although we are still doing that today. It never ends!!! I also went and got the rest of the boy's easter basket items. Target had some beach pails on sale for $2.99 and I bought some Starburst jelly beans--our favorite Easter treat--for the Easter egg hunt.
